Cyanotype Prints

Persimmons print toned with artichoke leaves and Yerba mate tea by Paige Ballin-Frye

We’re pleased to be showing a selection of cyanotype prints by local artist Paige Billin-Frye.

Her work is a lovely example of experimental expertise and polished grace. I remember as a kid when I first discovered sun printing. I had gone to a party and had come home with a little pack of paper that would magically change to blue in the sun. The best thing was making prints of my Dawn doll parts so I could make paper dolls for my doll concerts. Yep, my allowance didn’t cover buying a lot of Dawn dolls and the cost of a Barbie was way out of my financial league. Anyway, I digress, but the most important thing to know is that it was a very cool discovery. Fast forward to now and it is still an amazing process! Paige’s work is way beyond my paper doll prints. She has developed a sophisticated way of toning her prints using botanicals that is both moody and romantic, yet powerfully meditative.

Artist Demo: Sunday, April 14 11-3pm

Paige is sharing her process on how she uses tea, banana peels, artichoke leaves and more botanicals from her garden to tone her prints. It’s also a great chance to see her work and possibly take home one of these gems. Light refreshments will be served.
