Atmospherics

It’s 3pm and I see Sam checking all of his weather apps to figure out what preash light he’ll have to work with today. It’s a game played over and over on every exterior assignment he has. Sometimes he’s chasing unexpected clouds just so he can capture that fleeting moment of alpenglow. Some call this moment the antitwilight arch…the moment when the elastic scattering of sunlight baths everything and everyone in a salmon pink glow. He calls it preash light but I think technically this atmospheric phenomenon is called The Belt of Venus, which is a romantic nod to ancient goddesses. It’s both comforting and scary to consider this humbling moment a gift from a fickle god.
