Beautiful light but…

I found this snapshot of what my side of our studio space looked like back in 2016. Oddball spaces and awkward partition walls made it challenging for visitors who walked up the stairs to fully experience our work. I took this picture while I was setting up for a workshop many moons ago…

an ocean of color

It’s hot and humid out today which makes me long for my toes to be wiggling in the sand, standing next to the ocean with a breeze that whips my hair and wraps me in summer.

The Art of Balance

During the summer of 2020 I started stacking rocks in a conscious way. Living through the worst of the pandemic affected everyone differently. I found great comfort in my backyard and not in art which was surprising and frustrating for me.

Beach Light

SAM KITTNER— Nothing like the beach-light to teach you the ever-changing nature of sunlight…how color, tone, shadow, et al changes as the sun’s apparent path moves through the sphere of the wide open sky…how the moving clouds can filter the light in dramatic and subtle ways…how the sunlight itself and the bounced light from the sand and sea paints the scene before you in the most precious and fleeting manner…

The Clucking

We had seven of them. Two Rhodies, one Polish Cross (which came from a science experiment), an Araucana, two Bantams and a Plymouth. We had more than these seven over the course of 7 years, but somehow these seven are the ones I remember the most. They all had names and came from friends and neighbors. They ruled our daily schedule.

Faceless Faces

IN PUBLIC PLACES

Faceless Faces in Public Places presents people exhibiting determination and hope as they interact with their daily environments amid the angst of this unprecedented era, capturing the affection they show for their communities and the vital nature of place even during a pandemic. The collection, with over 80 black-and-white photographs, is composed of street photography showing adults and children wearing protective masks as they go about their lives in local neighborhoods within the Washington, DC, urban core. Sam Kittner’s Faceless Faces in Public Places marks our collective navigation through these historic times.

Faceless Faces in Public Places is a timely, uplifting, and thought-provoking gift for family, friends, clients, and coworkers.
